PLATELET-RICH PLASMA - PRP

What is Platelet Rich Plasma or therapeutic PRP?

Treatment with PRP consists of multiple superficial injections into the scalp of micro-drops of blood serum from which red blood cells and white blood cells have been eliminated so that only platelets remain. Once injected under the skin, the platelets release very powerful growth factors which act on hair follicles to stimulate development and slow down aging. PRP injections stimulate the cells and allow hair to stay in the anagen phase (growth phase) longer and start growing again. The quality of the hair is therefore greatly improved (texture, thickness, pigment) as well as the density, especially if the baldness is at an initial stage and it is then still possible to reverse its process.

What is the operating principle?

Platelets are responsible for clotting and healing. They contain active molecules: growth factors which allow the natural repair of damaged tissues.

It is a natural therapy prepared with your own cells. PRP is obtained from a blood sample, it is essentially made up of platelets and other blood elements of interest such as: plasma, vitamins, minerals, etc.

What type of alopecia can be treated?

Two major types of alopecia affect the population:

Androgenetic alopecia (hereditary baldness): major form of hair loss due mainly to hormonal imbalances.

Diffuse alopecia: consequence of a physiological change (stress, state of deficiency, etc.)

Any patient undergoing a hair transplant is also a candidate for this treatment which will be carried out before, during and after surgery to improve the survival rate of the grafts and stimulate regrowth more quickly.

PRP and contraindications?

The use of PRP is contraindicated in patients with skin lesions. The same applies if you suffer from a blood disease (e.g. thrombocytopenia) or an autoimmune disease.

As with all other subcutaneous injection treatments, taking an antiplatelet agent (aspirin, Kardégic) concomitantly with the injection is contraindicated.

The procedure is also contraindicated if you are taking medications that promote sensitivity to light or are based on beta-carotene, such as certain antibiotics or antidepressants.

Pregnant patients cannot benefit from the treatment. The same goes for breastfeeding women.

It is not recommended to wash your hair within 24 hours, apply ice or take oral anti-inflammatories.

How many PRP sessions are needed?

The protocol varies depending on your degree of alopecia. The consultation will allow us to define together a personalized treatment program adapted to your needs.

The treatment protocol may vary from one individual to another, depending on gender and the severity of baldness, but it generally requires 3 to 4 sessions at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. The results will be visible after a few weeks, but it will be essential to maintain them with maintenance sessions every four to six months. It is, in fact, impossible to stop baldness permanently because of its hormonal and hereditary cause, hence the importance of rigorous monitoring and maintenance sessions.

What are the results of the PRP?

The effects of PRP are numerous:

- Stimulation of hair growth

- Prolongation of survival and strengthening of existing hair

- Natural development of new roots

- Increased vascularization of the scalp

- Improved vitality, color and shine of your hair

- Only non-surgical and non-drug treatment that has proven its effectiveness and safety

Results vary from one patient to another. The first visible result is the reduction in hair loss one month after the first session. Regrowth generally occurs two to three months post-treatment.
